Yowie Bay, NSW:
Not far from the water, this light filled living retreat was designed to complement the distinctive architecture of the house and bring about unique outdoor experiences. Our conceptual fascination was brought about from the Client’s desire for a shipping container in their new garden. Still a darling of architectural upcycling the ready-made habitable space and structure, provided an opportunity to recycle a widely available material. We extended a natural timber arbour from the perched container, followed by the coolness of concrete in the form of floating steps, insitu walls and planter beds. A pallete of Senecio, Festuca, Doryanthes, Philodendron and Dichondra enliven the rationalisation of spaces in perfect hierarchy and give a striking contrast to the sharp geometries.
